Last week, we had the pleasure of attending the Volunteering Forum, hosted by Middlesbrough Voluntary Development Agency. Banna Faidulla from the Linx Youth Project was the guest speaker and delivered such an inspiring presentation.

From the moment Banna began speaking, it was clear why Linx is such a valued part of the community. Not only has Banna fully embraced the Volun-tees platform, but they have also become an unwavering source of support and encouragement for every volunteer who walks through Linx’s doors.

Listening to the presentation, it felt only natural to shine a spotlight on Linx Youth Project, an organisation whose commitment to young people and volunteers deserves to be shared more widely. Read on to find out more:

In the heart of Middlesbrough, Linx Youth Project has become a place where young people can grow, explore, and feel at home. For years, Linx has been opening its doors to young people, offering a safe space to all who attend.

These sessions are completely free and open to any young person who wants to access. Inside, friendships form over games and conversations, confidence flourishes during new activities, and young people find the support they might not even realise they needed. What begins as a simple evening session often becomes a place where young people feel seen, heard, and valued.

To keep this work thriving, Linx Youth Project openly welcomes new volunteers, people who want to share their passions, their skills, or simply their time. Some volunteers come in for a few hours each week to help run youth clubs, chatting with young people and encouraging them to try something new. Others offer one-off sessions in art, music, sport, or any special skill they’re excited to pass on. Some help behind the scenes with marketing, research, or even minibus driving to make sure no young person misses out.

Whatever role a volunteer chooses, they are never alone; each receives a personalised support plan that highlights their strengths, recognises their challenges, and helps them set weekly goals. Reflection is built into the programme, creating a supportive environment where volunteers grow just as much as the young people they support. Skills and experiences that will really shine on any volunteers CV. 

Linx also believes strongly in the power of younger volunteers. Banna talked about how their motivation and eagerness to learn help energise the team, while their involvement builds a future pipeline of passionate youth workers and community leaders.
