We are thrilled to have Depaul UK Nightstop and Positive Pathways on the Volun-tees platform. With three meaningful volunteering opportunities available, students have a fantastic chance to get involved in work that truly changes lives while gaining valuable experience.
Depaul UK is one of the UK’s leading homelessness charities, with over 30 years’ experience supporting people to rebuild their lives. Their mission is simple but powerful, to end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it. Across the country, and here in Teesside, Depaul UK works alongside people facing homelessness, offering not just accommodation, but practical support, wellbeing services and the opportunity to move forward with dignity and independence.
In Teesside, Depaul UK runs the Nightstop service, a unique and life-changing volunteering opportunity. Nightstop provides emergency accommodation for young people at risk of sleeping on the streets, placing them for short stays in the homes of trained local volunteers. Volunteers can get involved as hosts, drivers or chaperones, helping ensure young people reach a safe place when they need it most. As one Nightstop guest shared: “All the hosts have been so welcoming, and I can’t believe there are people there who really want to help others in this way. It’s wonderful.”
They also deliver Positive Pathways, a homelessness prevention programme in Middlesbrough that supports adults with experience of homelessness. Through drop-in sessions and one-to-one support, volunteers help people develop essential life skills while tackling issues such as housing insecurity, loneliness, substance misuse and wellbeing.
Depaul UK is deeply committed to supporting its volunteers. All roles come with full induction and ongoing training, regular check-ins, 24-hour on-call support and DBS checks, ensuring volunteers feel confident, safe and valued. Recognised with awards such as the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, Depaul UK offers students the chance to gain meaningful experience, develop empathy and practical skills, and make a genuine difference in their community.
