Design and implement a marketing campaign to help our Samaritans branch in Northallerton recruit more volunteers, build awareness of the service we offer, and attract donations for our branch.

What You'll Do:

You would assist us with developing and executing a marketing plan to promote the role of a Samaritans Volunteer to encourage a diverse range of suitable potential volunteers to apply from the town of Northallerton and surrounding towns and villages for a listening volunteering role within the Samaritans Northallerton Branch, answering calls to those in need of emotional support via our national helpline (116 123). We need to increase our branch volunteer base from 37 active volunteers to around 50 within the next 3 years to enable us to cover all our shifts from the branch in Northallerton.

You would not need to travel to our branch in Northallerton – the majority could be done via Zoom. However, periodic visits would be of benefit, for which travel expenses would be made. Interested applicants should contact the Branch Director, Julian Hooker in the first instance (Northallerton.Director@samaritans.org). You would then be given instructions on how to apply as a Support Volunteer, after which a Zoom interview would be arranged. DBS checks would need be made, and you would complete mandatory on-line training modules on safeguarding and Equity Diversity and Inclusion (taking around 40 minutes each).

Why You'll Love It:
You would be volunteering with a well-known and highly respected charity for which our branch in Northallerton has been offering emotional support for over 60 years. Whatever the overall outcome may be for the project, you will gain experience developing and implementing marketing plans. Volunteering with Samaritans as Support Volunteers would offer you a great sense of fulfilment by contributing towards helping our callers in need of emotional support and our vision of ‘reducing deaths by suicide’. It may also help to create further awareness of the services Samaritans offers within the student community should anyone need emotional support in the future.
What You'll Learn:
As this is a predominantly remote role (although regular contact via Zoom), this will enable the student to take ownership of the project and pursue their ideas. They will have the Samaritans guidelines which they have to adhere to, but this will be an opportunity to own, design and implement their own ideas. They will always have the resource of guidance from our Marketing Lead and social media Officer as well as Branch Director. Understanding more about the charity Samaritans and being instrumental in helping the charity to continue to succeed which in turn helps people in desperate need of support 24/7 365 days.
What We're Looking For:
A creative team player, with experience or an interest in creating marketing campaigns. With a passion for supporting Samaritans and everything we stand for in supporting those in need, you would bring external insight and fresh ideas not only to deliver creativity but help with identifying the route to market. Our Strategic Marketing Lead has done research in the past, but we feel fresh ideas, creativity and insight would be extremely valuable. We do have resources such as stock adverts but whatever is created must sit within the Samaritans brand, values and policies.
