You will work as a social prescriber working one to one with students online signposting them to activities and services that support their wellbeing. This role is aimed at students studying a degree in Psychology (under or post-grad level).

What You'll Do:

What is a social prescriber?

Social prescribing link workers in the UK support individuals in addressing non-medical issues impacting health, such as isolation, housing, or financial struggles, by linking them to local community resources.

The overall purpose of the social prescriber volunteer role is to help students navigate the health and wellbeing offer available to them both on and off campus. This will have a number of benefits including:

  • Reduced social isolation
  • Timely access to support around health and wellbeing
  • Increased knowledge of a range of community activities, events and services
  • Improved wellbeing
  • Improved engagement and academic performance
  • Improved retention and academic success

You will work with students on a one-to-one basis on Teams to signpost them to a range of community and university activities, events and services, that are suportive of their wellbeing. Students will have been referred to the Social Prescribing Service or they may have self-referred.

You will receive training following the curriculum taught to NHS social prescribers, before you begin working with students one to one.

Why You'll Love It:
This role is a fantastic chance to support the wellbeing of fellow students. Helping others is also of benefit to your own wellbeing. You will be working with a small team of fellow students and staff from SSSHL and SLS who will be available for ongoing support and advice. You will also learn about the plethora of services, activities and events available within the university and in the local community, and be able to connect those accessing the social prescribing service with those services and activities and events, for the benefit of their wellbeing.
What You'll Learn:
You'll be given all training required for the role. The training curriculum covers the same content as NHS social prescribers receive, so it will put you in a great position for gaining future employment in your chosen field. You will have the chance to develop your organisation and communication skills, as well as getting to work with academic staff, support staff and students.
What We're Looking For:
This role is mostly aimed at Psychology students (undergraduate or postgraduate). However if you feel you have the required skills, experience and motivation for the role please do apply. We are looking for enthusiastic people, passionate about helping others.
