Help us promote a reading for pleasure culture in primary schools, by offering one-to-one reading support with children in disadvantaged communities.
This is an online opportunity with completely flexible hours!

What You'll Do:

Volunteers need to foster a love of reading with a student by running two 30-minute sessions a week for a six-week programme. They should plan sessions using Bookmark's online library, adapting their sessions to each child's needs and interests.

Why You'll Love It:
Our mission is to promote a reading for pleasure culture and so we want our reading sessions to be fun for both the volunteer and reader! This means you can be creative and imaginative in your sessions, playing games and reading interesting stories to keep your reader engaged.
What You'll Learn:
Students will develop communication, empathy, and leadership through mentoring their child reading. They will gain skills in organisation and problem-solving alongside a professionalism in their adherence to safeguarding policies.
What We're Looking For:
Volunteers need to be reliable and committed to attending all the sessions in the programme. They should communicate clearly and patiently, using active listening to shape their approach to reading. Overall, we value volunteers who are enthusiastic about reading to foster a mutual enjoyment for their child reader.
