What You'll Do: 

Volunteers are needed to support, for a few hours a week for around six months, a blind or partially sighted person.  Volunteers will support their allocated person in their safe negotiation of the environment, building their confidence and developing links to the local community, whilst maintaining their dignity and promoting independence.  The role involves encouraging and supporting someone in a wide range of planned everyday activities.  These may include going for a coffee, visiting the shops, going to the leisure centre, joining a club or group, attending a sporting event or art and cultural activities.  The activities will be agreed between the client and the volunteer.  Volunteers will also demonstrate the sighted guiding technique to friends and colleagues.  Full training and support will be provided.This is a great opportunity to help blind or partially sighted people to develop confidence and provide them with greater participation and inclusion opportunities.
