Samphire's Ex-Detainee project has been supporting Ex-detainees for over 10 years. We currently manage a peer support group for ex-detainees, run by ex-detainees, that meets fortnightly in Middlesbrough. Ex-detainees are migrants, whose lives have been affected by immigration detention. The UK is the only country in Europe that does not have a limit to immigration detention.Most of the group users are asylum seekers or failed asylum seekers. We are looking for 1-2 volunteers who would be able to come in once or twice a month and assist people with their conversational English - potentially - prepare some tasks, think of discussion topics, etc. We are happy to provide some resources and reimburse reasonable travel expenses.
