You will gather and organise a range of data about the town of Hartlepool – using local and national official sources, such as the Office for National Statistics. SUITABLE FOR WE MODULE

What You'll Do:

You will gather a range of demographic data about people living in Hartlepool – using official sources, such as the Office for National Statistics. Charities often need to understand local demographics such as population, levels of disability, un/employment and population health. The core challenge of this role will be to locate and present these demographics in a simple, easily understood format. You will join the Hartlepower team of community workers, based in Hartlepool – working flexibly, either online or in our friendly office. The project is open ended – as there’s potentially a great deal of data available – but we’re asking for a minimum of 20-30 hours in total, though you could do more if you wished. There will be no pressure to meet targets – we want you to do as much as you comfortably can in the time you’re able to give to us. There will be as much help and support as you need – your mentor will be on hand to discuss the project, answer your questions and listen to your ideas. We'd like you to make a contribution to shaping the finished product.

Why You'll Love It:
Because we're a relaxed and friendly small team of 4 people (2F & 2M) who work hard but have fun along the way. The project has the advantage of being without pressure - but at the same time offering the opportunity to make a real difference by making accessible to charities etc. information that they might otherwise be unable to find and collate for themselves. Furthermore, the project also provides the opportunity to receive a reference that could make a future employer sit up and take notice when they see this experience and our endorsement of your skills and motivation on your CV.
What You'll Learn:
We believe the skills you’d develop by doing this work will include: • Analysis – you’ll be extracting data for either the whole of Hartlepool or its individual wards - from both local and national datasets. • Written & verbal communication and interpersonal skills– as a temporary member of the team you’ll be discussing the project with your volunteer mentor. • Data management – you will be supported to decide how best to manage and present the data you track down. • Digital literacy – you will develop your understanding of how to use MS Office and Excel (if necessary - you may already be proficient). • Numeracy – you’ll be checking that the data you extract is transferred accurately into an accessible & meaningful format. • Organisational – you will organise your own time and be able to keep track of the data sources you use, so that any successor volunteers can pick up from where you leave off • Project management – you will be given as free a reign as you’re comfortable with to get on with the work • Research – we’d love it if you find new data that we hadn’t found ourselves • Teamwork & collaboration – you’ll collaborate with your mentor. We want you to experience the feeling of having ownership of this project for the time you’re with us.
What We're Looking For:
Someone who enjoys research and wants to make a difference. We're also looking for reliability.
