School readers need volunteers to go into local primary schools in Middlesbrough during the school day to listen to the children read to them 1:1 SUITABLE FOR WE MODULE

What You'll Do:

Volunteers spend 10-15 minutes with each child, listening to the child read, reading to the child, talking about what is happening in the book and looking at the pictures. The reading sessions should be fun for both the children and the volunteer.

Why You'll Love It:
Our volunteers get enormous pleasure from seeing the difference that a few hours of their time can make to a child's reading ability, confidence and enjoyment.
What You'll Learn:
Volunteers join the school community and independently run reading sessions, supported by class teachers and the Schoolreaders team. This is an opportunity to gain experience in a school setting, build communication skills with children age 4-11, and develop problem solving skills.    Online safeguarding guidance and best practice reading guidance are provided by Schoolreaders.
What We're Looking For:
We do not ask for any particular qualificatios, but Schoolreaders need to enjoy spending time with children, have a good grasp of written and spoken english and be able to commit to attend shool weekly during term time for a minimum of one year. Each potential volunteer completes an application form online and agrees to the schoolreaders code of conduct. The partner school where the volunteer is paired with completes an enhanced DBS check at the school's expense.
