Age UK Teesside offers a targeted and time-limited, enabling service for people aged 65 and over, aimed at tackling social isolation. The service can help people to re-engage in activity which is meaningful and enjoyable and helps build confidence

What You'll Do: 
  • To provide time limited support to people in their homes and the community
  • To build safe and reliable relationships with the client
  • Attend community activities/groups with the client
  • To report any concerns to the project team
  • To undertake suitable training to assist in the role
  • To observe Age UK Teesside policies and procedures
  • Provide information for monitoring purposes
  • Focus on individual capabilities not inabilities

What You'll Learn:

You will develop excellent interpersonal skills and hopefully find out more about yourself and the wider community.   Most importantly you will learn how detrimental to physical and mental health loneliness and social isolation are, and how you can be part of the solution to reduce this
What We're Looking For: 
We are looking for people who enjoy the company of older people and who want to make a difference in their communities. Volunteers should be non-judgmental, supportive and patient.  A knowledge of local support, groups and activities and services for older people would be advantagous. A willingness to think out of the box and be solution focused is desirable Volunteers should be reliable and have good communication skills Have the ability to build good rapport and to be respectful is essential This role requires you to be able to work alone and unsupervised
