You and your friendly dog could make a huge difference to the lives of older dog lovers in your community, with just 1-2 hours a week! Wag & Company (Wag) is the only visiting dog charity in the North East.
What You'll Do:
To be a Wag volunteer, loving dog owners must have had their dog for at least six months, and be happy to follow their veterinary guidelines (complying with national standards for visiting dogs). If your dog is friendly and well-behaved, is at least 18 months old, enjoys being handled – and you think your dog would enjoy volunteering – check out Wag's suitability and assessment criteria. You could help bring companionship, comfort, and joy to those who need it most.
Why You'll Love It:
Wag & Company is the only visiting dog charity in the North East of England that befriends elderly people in their own homes, as well as in care settings and hospitals. Many of their elderly friends are bereaved, isolated, and deeply miss the companionship of a dog. A friendly visit, a chat, and a furry cuddle can bring so much joy to someone in need.
What You'll Learn:
Bring companionship, comfort, and joy to those who need it most.
What We're Looking For:
A friendly, well-behaved dog at least 18 months old who enjoys being handled
A loving owner who has had their dog for at least six months
Volunteers happy to follow their veterinary guidelines (complying with national standards for visiting dogs)
Most Wag Friendship Dogs are simply affectionate and loving, not obedience champions! If you think your dog would enjoy volunteering, check out their suitability and assessment criteria.
