We're looking for a creative and organised Newsletter Volunteer to produce our local newsletter for members, parents, and other relevant individuals.

What You'll Do:

Key tasks for your role

  • Decide on the theme and content for each issue of the newsletter.
  • Ensure regular items are included, such as: news from the area, a diary/adverts for parent support activities (like bumps & babies groups and coffee mornings), reports on past fundraising events and adverts for future ones, volunteering opportunities, and other NCT information.
  • Integrate adverts (in line with NCT's Commercial Activities Policy) from local companies/services to cover production and distribution costs and ideally contribute to fundraising profits.
  • Balance articles on pregnancy, birth, and early parenting that are relevant and useful to readers, and encourage others to contribute their experiences.
  • Reflect NCT’s wide range of issues and services, including membership and advertisements for our antenatal and postnatal courses.
  • Secure consent for any personal information, volunteer contact details, and photographs.
  • Collaborate with an Advertising Volunteer if one is working to sell advertising space.

To be successful in this role, it's really useful if you have, or are willing to acquire, knowledge and understanding of:

  • NCT’s vision, purpose, and beliefs, including current campaigns and latest strategy.

Time Commitment

This is a flexible role designed to fit around your existing commitments. You could volunteer with as little as 1 hour per week, though the exact time commitment will depend on the frequency and duration of your Newsletter

What can you expect from us?

When you join the NCT family, you'll receive:

  • A rewarding volunteer experience where you'll meet new people and develop valuable skills.
  • Excellent support from experienced volunteers and our dedicated Volunteering Team.
  • Access to an online platform packed with all the tools, resources, and training you'll need.
  • Expenses paid in line with our expenses policy.
  • A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do.
  • Most importantly, the chance to make a real and lasting difference to parents in your local community!

If you're ready to use your creativity and organisational skills to bring valuable content to parents in your local area, we encourage you to get in touch!

Why You'll Love It:
Are you passionate about connecting with your community and sharing valuable information with parents? We're looking for a creative and organised Newsletter Volunteer to produce our local newsletter for members, parents, and other relevant individuals. This is a fantastic opportunity to gather compelling stories, edit engaging content, and design an informative publication that truly makes a difference. Our newsletters are a key way we keep members informed about NCT activities, promote events, and even raise valuable funds through advertising. They're typically designed using an NCT template and emailed, though some teams choose to print copies for local distribution to healthcare professionals and community hubs. The size and format of our newsletters vary, from a single sheet to a multi-page color magazine. The essential goal is to create an interesting mix of local and charity-wide stories, information, and relevant advertising for our readership. Members and subscribers especially enjoy reading real-life personal stories from other parents. This shared experience helps to inform, support, and reassure new parents that they're not alone in their journey, fostering a sense of community and belonging. The newsletter also boosts NCT's local profile, providing updates on new services and national and local initiatives, reminding members they're part of a dynamic organisation making a positive impact across the UK. Newsletters are most commonly produced quarterly, a manageable frequency that allows for comprehensive and engaging content. They often feature seasonal parenting tips, local birth stories, good news, adverts for local parent services, and details of local NCT activities.
