

We are a local charity located in Middlesbrough and have been in operation since 1960. Throughout those 60 years, we have worked to provide a community for the blind here in Middlesbrough and the surrounding area. It is our mission to help blind and partially-sighted people stay independent and to raise their quality of life.
We offer many services to our Clients, including home visits, transcription services, social outings and shopping escorts. Our social centre provides a place for the blind and partially sighted to socialise, eat and take part in many activities. Our volunteers visit people in their homes and also assist them with shopping and other tasks. We also arrange regular day trips and holidays.
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Volunteers to join our team. This role is ideal for individuals looking to make a positive impact in the community while gaining valuable experience in various areas such as project management, public health, and fundraising. Volunteers will work alongside staff and other volunteers to support our mission and contribute to meaningful projects.
Duties
Assist in the planning and execution of community outreach programmes.
Support fundraising efforts by attending and assisting client.
Help supervise and educate participants during workshops and activities.
Collaborate with team members on various projects, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.

Skills
Knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies is advantageous.

Our Social Centre is open Tuesday - Friday 10am - 2pm. Travel from your door to ours in our own Minibus transport. Enjoy a cup of Tea/ Coffee with a light breakfast snack and then at lunchtime a two-course freshly prepared meal by our resident cook. You can also take part in various activities for blind people offered daily by our Activity Coordinator.
We have monthly outings which can include going to the beach, theatre, farm, museum, garden centre etc...
The Centre hosts a Twilight dinner most months which is a freshly prepared two course evening meal, we also supply the transport for this.
Resources - Supplying aids and equipment for blind and partially sighted people.
Transcription Service - For Braille, Audio and Large Print.
Home Visiting - Befriending Service - A volunteer visits your home and stays for a friendly chat and a cup of tea. They will also help you with mail and Doctor‘s appointments.
Shopping Escort Service - A volunteer will collect you and escort you to a local supermarket to help you with your shopping.
Bulletin - Our four-monthly bulletin keeps you up-to-date with local events and equipment.
