Sea Cadets
A Different Kind of Adventure, Launching Young People for Life Today
ABOUT US:

Whether at sea or on land, Sea Cadets offers an environment where young people can find new confidence and inspiration and gain nationally recognised qualifications. Across the UK 14,000 cadets from 400 units, supported by 9,000 volunteers, are challenging themselves and developing new skills through lots of activities based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy, plus tons of adventure for the best possible head start in life. Each Sea Cadet unit is an independent charity in its own right which must fundraise for its running costs while the parent charity of MSSC (Marine Society & Sea Cadets) funds the charitable infrastructure and provides national facilities. Our biggest supporter is the Royal Navy whose customs and traditions are at the heart of what we do.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Here in Teesside, we have 200 Sea Cadets at our units in Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool, Redcar, and Guisborough & East Cleveland – all supported by over 100 volunteers. Each Sea Cadet unit is a charity and we are always looking for volunteers to work directly with our cadets or helping to manage the unit from behind the scenes. As a volunteer, you really can make a huge positive difference to the lives of young people from our region.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

Did you know we do all this: sailing, rowing, kayaking, canoeing, orienteering, first aid, navigation, cooking, adventure training, windsurfing, power boating, meteorology, expeditions, diving, summer camp, regional and national competitions and so much more? Most of our qualifications are accredited by the leading UK bodies - so they stay with you for life, and if our cadets fancy a challenge overseas, they can apply to travel to all over the world as part of our International Exchange programme. There are also opportunities for our volunteers to take part in life changing challenges abroad and in the UK too.Without you, we simply wouldn't exist so take a look to find out about how you can help us to keep inspiring young people.
