Zoe's Place Baby Hospice
Our mission is to provide child centred care to babies and infants from birth to five years living with life-threatening/life-limiting conditions and on-going support to meet the needs of the family.
ABOUT US:

Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice supports babies and young children who have complex illnesses or disabilities from birth to age five.

We work to ensure that very unwell children can enjoy the best possible quality of life and we support their families throughout their journey.

Our children’s hospices, based in Coventry and Middlesbrough, offer respite, palliative and end of life care for children, as well as support for the whole family. With a range of play therapies and fun activities, our team of specialists work together to make every moment of childhood count.

As a charity, we provide our services free of charge to families who need us, relying on donations from the public. Find out how you can support us, or how to refer a child to our services.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Many children come to Zoe’s Place for respite care and a range of play-based therapies. We also offer support for parents, carers and siblings, as well as end-of-life and bereavement care for those families who sadly need it.

OUR VALUES:
To always put the child at the centre of everything we do To ensure that every child gets the maximum benefit from each visit to the hospice through play, fun, therapy and sensory experiences. To provide on-going support to all members of the family following bereavement. Deliver the best effective care that our resources will allow Respect and value the contribution of all staff, supporters, volunteers, parents and families. Encourage everyone to reach their potential – children, families, staff, volunteers and supporters. We are open, honest and professional in everything we do
THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
Zoe’s Place was the UK’s first hospice charity established specifically to provide the specialist care that babies and young children need. We were founded by Professor Jack Scarisbrick in 1995. He identified that many babies and young children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions were in desperate need of specialist respite or palliative care facilities. Crucially, Jack recognised that families most needed this facility during the earliest years of their child’s life. The idea of opening hospices designed specifically for babies and young children was born. The name Zoe’s Place was chosen, Zoe being Greek for ‘gift of life’. The first Zoe’s Place baby hospice opened in Liverpool in 1995. It was joined by a baby hospice in Middlesbrough in 2004, and a third baby hospice in Coventry in 2011. In April 2025, the Liverpool hospice was transferred to a new charity established by the people of Liverpool. Zoe’s Place continues to run the Middlesbrough and Coventry baby hospices. We remain committed to providing a warm, loving, environment for babies and young children with complex medical needs, as well as a range of support services for their families.
