Trustee - Treasurer

The Tees Women Poets support women of all backgrounds in the Tees Valley to build personal & professional skills through writing and performing poetry. Operating since 2011 but newly a charity, we need a good treasurer to keep us right.

What You'll Do:
  • Attend quarterly trustee meetings - either in person or online - taking 90mins - one of these is the AGM and will be longer
  • Read all meeting papers in advance
  • Contribute a very short treasurer's report for the Annual Report - end of year accounts will be prepared by an external accountant
  • Help the director prepare the quarterly management accounts - approx 90 mins quarterly
  • Help the director pay invoices monthly - currently the director pays freelance staff, and the treasurer pays the director - approx 30-60 mins monthly
  • Attend one 'vision day' per year - usually in person and with loverly food - and contribute to discussions on the strategic direction of the charity - this may be rolled together with the AGM
Why You'll Love It:
We are not a stuffy charity! We are a bunch of fun, funny, creative, passionate, and widely-networked women who love the arts and what they can do for society. Not all of us are poets, we have artist-advisors or 'Guardians' who join meetings and bring that expertise; but we are all creative in our own ways and believe in the power of creativity to change and heal lives. We are also intersectional feminists; inclusive of trans and gender non-conforming communities, working class, neurodiverse and disabled voices, survivors, and looking to connect more with communities of colour. We care about both craft, and community.
What You'll Learn:
You'll be connected into the cultural sector in Teesside and learn with us about women's rights and issues regionally, nationally and globally. You'll get experience of working with an agile board of trustees and with artist-freelancers.
What We're Looking For:
A woman with an intersectional feminist frame of mind and a thorough confidence with financial record-keeping. Accountancy training would be a huge bonus, especially an understanding of how to draw up and maintain cash-flows and management accounts.   You may also have some entrepreneurial expertise around the monetisation of intellectual property, or opportunities for selling services.
